During my visit to High Point Market last month I met many wonderful people and took in many fabulous showrooms; one of my very favorites being Drexel Heritage. The quality, variety and visual appeal of this company is certainly enhanced by the talent of their creative director Denise Alala. Denise, one half of the creative team (Carl Bundy being the other) behind this luxurious furniture brand, was our tour guide for the day.

After a three week trip to the States and narrowly missing Hurricane Sandy, I am finally back home in Scotland with much to report…from my first trip to High Point to speaking at Design Camp…I have tons to share. Tuesday I will recap my favorite High Point finds (I am still sorting through images). Now off to make soup and ease back into the routine of life a home (and the joys of jet lag).

The inimitable Keith Granet, founder of Granet and Associates, launches his inaugural program Inside the Business of Design: An Interview Series with Keith Granet. Bjarke Ingels and Robert A.M. Stern will kick off the first two interviews in 2012. The series will be held at the Tishman Auditorium at the New School in New York. I had the pleasure of hearing Bjarke speak in Copenhagen; trust me…he is NOT to be missed.

Tomorrow I leave for High Point Market in North Carolina. It’s one of the biggest events in the industry and I have yet to attend (making this trip even more exciting). This past February I met the lovely Lisa Hanly, Vice President, Corporate Communications and Public Relations for Furniture Brands (including: Thomasville, Drexel Heritage, Maitland-Smith, Pearson, Henredon, Broyhill, Hickory, La Barge, Lane Furniture and Lane Venture), who kindly invited me to come and witness High Point for myself.

Fall is upon us, and this seems like the perfect easy, autumnal Sunday soup. My husband, who happens to be a great cook, found the basis of this recipe online while sitting in Starbucks. Like most recipes, he tweaks and adds his own touches (always improving the original). In this case it’s substituting sweet potatoes (rather than squash) and adding garlic, shallot and ginger (which were missing in the original). It now sounds perfect to me, enjoy.
