    Ivanka Trump’s Park Avenue apartment

    Robert Kime fabric

    our living room

I am getting ready to reupholster my two favorite chairs and I can feel the anxiety attack coming on now! When I choose a fabric it has to pass the I-love-it-and-can’t-get-enough-of-it-test! Just ask my husband the number of times he has heard, “But I don’t’ love it.” Yes, I know, there is medication for this type of behavior.

But when you consider the cost of fabric I want to know that I won’t have any regrets when I receive the monthly round of magazines in the mail.

I’ve gone back to my ‘style files’ for inspiration and the two things I can’t get enough of are Ivanka Trump’s Park Avenue apartment, (originally decorated by Emma Jane Pilkington) and suzani inspired fabrics.

I am particularly fond of British decorator Robert Kime’s fabrics and of course there is the beautiful Dzhambul by Brunschwig & Fils. You can see one of the chairs on the left-hand side of the photo above. If you have any suggestions for other suzani inspired fabrics I would be most grateful.

The Robert Kime fabric is beautiful. I also think that Madeline Weinrib (www.madelineweinrib.com) has a beautiful selection of suzani/ikat inspired textiles.

Good choices. The first fabric in Ivanka Trump’s apartment is Moondance by Lulu DK. I LOVE the Brunschwig fabric the best though!

If you want to see how great the Dzhambul fabric is, check out the ottoman of Courtney at Style Court. That’s a wonderful fabric.

I’ve been really happy with the Brunschwig, but the Kime fabric is AMAZING. Maybe a bit softer. I’m pretty sure Ruthie Sommers had the Kime fabric (same you’ve shown here) in pillows on her own sofa for a while. It’s just so beautiful!

Thanks Courtney. My colors are more subdued and I wonder if the Kime fabric wouldn’t work better.

Have you tried Ebay? You can buy fabulous designer fabric (Brunschwigs, Colefax & Fowler, Scalamandre, Cowtan & Tout, GP &J Baker, etc…), mostly discontinued but in huge yardages and for a tenth of the price.

I spend hours browsing through the fabrics. There are a couple of sellers who are actual textile sellers and the have beautiful stuff.

Let me know if you need help or tips on how to find it on Ebay – although “fabric” “brunschwig” should do it!

Another Brunschwig & Fils fabric, called les touches
is a graphic but very attractive animal jaquard- and I think it would add a nice “wow” to your subtle, tasteful apartment.
You could still use the other gorgeous fabrics for pillows or a table topper.
all the best, love your blog, tres chic!

Hi Ronda! I know what you are going through. I have spent a couple of months deciding on a sofa fabric for my family room. I cast my vote for the Robert Kime for your room if all else stays the same. I love the Brunschwig, but the Kime seems to be perfect with what you have. With a bunch of bright red flowers on the table, Spectacular! Love your drapes BTW!Looking forward to the results.:)

ok, the Kime is best for your room as it is now, lovely – the windows are beautiful! So English!!

oK – any Kime is great.

BUT, I am seeing Michael Smith’s Jaspar here. The colors are muted, similar to Kime’s, but even better, the fabrics are 1/2 the price, so consider that too. I’m in love with Jaspar. He has a few fabrics with Cowtan and Tout, but his line is gorgeous. check it out.
