Yes, I am one of those people. I am smitten with the epic romance of Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. I love getting swept up in their historical relationship and find both people to be fascinating. I FULLY realize that not everyone shares my enthusiasm (especially living in the UK!).

I will admit that not having lived during during WWII or under a monarchy growing up, I don’t quite understand the feelings of Brits. However, to my mind, they were mesmerizing characters. Not to mention fashion icons of their day. Say what you will, Wallis had style. Many will argue that it was just a beautiful façade…nevertheless it was beautiful. And, do any of us ever really know the truth about another person or their private life?

I loved Madonna’s W.E. and thought Andrea Riseborough truly captured Wallis’ spirit. I was not sure what to expect given the reviews, but I love every moment. The movie is a visual feast and was a welcome escape from the every day. I honestly believe that if the reviewers/critics had seen the film as if it were a blind wine tasting (i.e. not knowing of Madonna’s involvement) it would have received different reviews. The clothing alone is worth the price of admission. Costume designer Arianne Phillips worked with such labels as Cartier, Dior, and Dunhill for the 60 or so wardrobe changes in the film. All in all I adore this film. I would love to hear your thoughts.

I was so excited to see this movie after watching the trailer only to be squashed by the press that the film has received. Thank you for your unbiased review. I am going to see W.E. this week.

I too have been somewhat fascinated by this couple and have read about them. In my opinion, I think Edward was completely besotted and Wallis was an opportunist. Whatever—they made for very interesting readings and discussions, and gave the world a glamorous legacy.

Looks fabulous! Love the clothes, I too love getting caught up in the romance butI often wonder if she was pushed into the marriage and if she had her regrets.

I understand Edward was considered a person of very weak character and I have read both he and Wallis were Nazi sympathizers. This does not mean their love story is not an intriguing one. Teddee

Their love story has been ruined for me since learning they were
      Nazi sympathizers.

There is also quite a bit of documentation of her dominating treatment of Edward.. In short, she seems to have been a very, very unpleasant person.

I definetely will go see this movie, I am fascinated by the past, by great stories and Madonna, just for the fact she is at the top (in good and in bad times) for more than 20 years deserves an applause. I appreciate people who “dare” to live their lives fully.

There is a great need that most of us carry to some degree based on our childhood and how much of the bonding and connection we received from our mothers and fathers, so this story is in many ways, a story that many of us can relate too, it was carried out in a much grander style, but is a very old theme..
      Need drives most of us…..
