Earlier this year I had the privilege of meeting Erik Svensson and Veronica Macasaet at the Savoir Showroom in Soho. Only vaguely familiar with the company, I was eager to learn more about Savoir and what made their mattresses the best in the world.

For starters, each mattress is tailor-made to accommodate variations in the height, weight and style of the individual customer.  Then, each one is inscribed with the customer’s name to ensure that the bespoke bed is completely personalized. For couples requiring different levels of support, two differently tensioned and upholstered mattresses are lined and zipped together.

Savoir first began making their beds in 1905 and has a long and illustrious history with the Savoy Hotel. In the 1930s, wanting to provide guests with unparalleled sleep on the best mattresses, the Savoy Hotel took over the Savoir company. The beds were made exclusively for the Savoy Hotel until 1997 when the company regained their autonomy and began producing for the general public. Savoir beds are now available in major cities around the world and most recently in New York.

No question Savoir beds are a true luxury item and come at a price. However, when you consider that you spend a third of your life in bed, it gives you reason to reflect a bit more on the subject of sleep and making a good investment.

I am thrilled to be partnering with the New York Showroom as their designer liaison and sharing more about this wonderful company with all of you. Next week I am off to London to see firsthand the magnificent undertaking that is a Savoir bed.

If you are in New York stop by the showroom at 28 Wooster Street at the corner of Grand Street. Veronica, James or Erik will happily tell you about Savoir Beds, their heritage and craft.

      Dear Rhonda,

I love these beds, are the materials organic in nature and with out off gassing?
